Syrah
A red variety originating from the Rodanos valley. In Greece it was first cultivated in Sithonia and in recent years is grown as a recommended variety in many prefectures throughout the country, (Peloponnese, Crete, Dodecannese, Macedonia, Thrace, Central Greece, Thessaly). It ripens in late August to early September.
This variety may yield very or less strong wines of medium acidity, with a vivid colour and intense flavours that become all the more complex with ageing.
It is used in making a number of red and rose Local Wines (Epanomis, Sithonias, Irakleiotikos etc.).
